Autopilot disengages when braking is engaged. It would not make sense to keep Autopilot on in a situation where it needs to brake. Tesla also counts “any crash in which Autopilot was deactivated within 5 seconds before impact” in their safety reports. https://www.tesla.com/VehicleSafetyReport
