The 5 Americans were arrested and convicted in Iran for spying and or espionage and are therefore not "innocent". Two of the five have not even been named ! There are [still] more than a dozen Iranian prisoners held in the US, mainly for “breaching the US sanctions on Iran” https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/sep/18/us-iran-prisoner-swap-the-detainees-to-be-freed
