Original Note:
The result of a 2014 Crimean referendum was a 97% vote in favour of integration into the Russian Federation. Despite condemnation from the UK, US, et al., a number of polls (incl. Pew, Gallup and GfK) suggest a strong preference for Moscow over Kiev. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenrapoza/2015/03/20/one-year-after-russia-annexed-crimea-locals-prefer-moscow-to-kiev/ https://avaazpress.s3.amazonaws.com/558_Crimea.Referendum.Poll.GfK.pdf https://www.usagm.gov/wp-content/media/2014/06/Ukraine-slide-deck.pdf https://web.archive.org/web/20160722133509/https://www.opendemocracy.net/od-russia/john-o%25E2%2580%2599loughlin-gerard-toal/crimean-conundrum https://www.pewresearch.org/global/2014/05/08/despite-concerns-about-governance-ukrainians-want-to-remain-one-country/ https://web.archive.org/web/20201112002832/https://orientalreview.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/GFK_report_FreeCrimea.pdf https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/03/18/six-years-20-billion-russian-investment-later-crimeans-are-happy-with-russian-annexation/
