By definition, a proxy war is an armed conflict on behalf of other parties that are not directly involved in the hostilities (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_war#:~:text=not%20directly%20involved%20in%20the%20hostilities). This is not a proxy war, but a real invasion by Russia, in which Ukraine has no other option but to defend itself by requesting help.
