It is true that in April, 2020, the U.S. unemployment rate rose as high as 14%. However, in March of that same year it was only 4.4% and in January it was only 3.5%. The sudden increase was due to the COVID-19 pandemic and it began dropping again almost as quickly as it rose. https://www.bls.gov/cps/
