Original Note:
Buildings constructed for the Chicago World's Fair were designed to be temporary. Many were built of straw and plaster, painted white to create the appearance of marble. Most of these structures burned to the ground in July 1893 after a small fire easily ignited them. https://peabody.harvard.edu/video-all-world-here-anthropology-display-1893-chicago-world%E2%80%99s-fair https://pages.vassar.edu/realarchaeology/2019/11/23/intentional-impermanence-excavating-the-1893-worlds-fair/ https://www.firehero.org/2022/07/25/chicago-worlds-fair-cold-storage-fire http://www.encyclopedia.chicagohistory.org/pages/1386.html#:~:text=A%20smallpox%20epidemic%20that%20originated,destroying%20many%20of%20the%20buildings.
