This data is misleading. 93% of Americans over the age of 65 - the most vulnerable to covid - are fully vaccinated. Conversely only 39% of children under 11 are vaccinated. https://usafacts.org/visualizations/covid-vaccine-tracker-states That higher risk populations would die at higher rates - even with the vaccine - is not surprising.
