The BLS provides an explanation on why numbers are revised on their website https://www.bls.gov/opub/btn/volume-2/revisions-to-jobs-numbers.htm Essentially each month 560,000 businesses are surveyed, and not all return their reports on time for the first release. As more reports come in, the number is revised up or down.
