Original Note:
All Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders automatically became Australian citizens under the Nationality and Citizenship Act 1948. Before 1949 all Australians were British Subjects. The 1967 Referendum made two changes to the constitution that did not alter citizenship. https://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/legal-affairs/myths-about-1967-referendum-should-be-discarded/news-story/9dc09f38cffd999a41b574ab76db8ef5 https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/172506470 https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/your-questions-on-notice/questions/when-did-indigenous-australians-and-other-people-of-colour-get-the-right-to-become-members-of-the-australian-parliament
