Original Note:

The Koh-i-noor was obtained in 1849 in the Treaty of the Punjab when it was given as a gift to the British by Ranjit Singh. In 2016 the Solicitor General of India acknowledged the legality of the UK's ownership and that it was not "stolen." https://news.sky.com/story/india-koh-i-noor-gem-given-to-uk-not-stolen-10248324
