Original Note:

Escape velocity refers to the speed needed to completely escape the influence of Earth’s (or any other object’s) gravitational influence and go into interplanetary space. This is much higher than the speed needed to go into orbit, as the Space Shuttle did. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_velocity?wprov=sfti1
