At various times, Kerry has claimed both to have and have not disposed of his medals or that medals disposed of belonged to other veterans who could not attend a protest to do so. https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=123495&page=1 It does seem that the medals worn by Kerry do correspond to the ones that he was awarded.
