Original Note:
Protection of the surgeon is the benefit of masks during surgery. They can act as a physical barrier against blood/bodily fluid splashes. One study revealed that facemasks prevented blood/bodily fluid splashes that would have contaminated the surgeon's face in 24% of procedures https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4480558/#:~:text=Protection%20of%20the%20surgeon&text=Most%20obviously%2C%20they%20can%20act,face%20in%2024%25%20of%20procedures
