El is one of the oldest words for God, used in the Bible until the Coptic translators changed it to "God". The plural was Elohim. So it's no surprise that Wernher von Braun used the name El for a leader of men to Mars, and not necessarily evidence of his prophetic skills. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_(deity)
