Norfolk Southern themselves characterized the process as a "controlled detonation". https://www.cbsnews.com/pittsburgh/video/norfolk-southern-says-detonation-in-train-derailment-went-perfect/ The word "massive" would be opinion, but this referring to the release and burn of the chemicals as a "detonation" is in mainstream use. Its usage is not misleading and so no note is necessary.
