Solar Storms occur most commonly during the peak of Solar Maximum which we are currently in. Like Hurricane seasons there’s times in the cycle with lots of activity (now) and times with less activity. The cycle is 11 years long, 4 of these events are expected per cycle. https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/noaa-scales-explanation
