The current yearly inflation of 6.5% would be the largest since 1990, if it hadn’t been even higher each of the last 13 months. https://beta.bls.gov/dataViewer/view/timeseries/CUSR0000SA0 2021 inflation was 3x the high of the prior eight years & 2022 nearly that high again. https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/inflation/current-inflation-rates/ "Inflation coming down" still means prices are rising.
