Original Note:

Columbus Day only became a permanent federal holiday in 1971. An Indigenous People's Day began at a conference in 1977. Native American Day was first recognized by the state of South Dakota in 1982 in lieu of Columbus Day (which 13 states still don't recognize) https://www.timesrecordnews.com/story/news/2021/10/08/where-columbus-day-holiday-what-indigenous-peoples-day/6053279001/
