The google maps picture uses the “Terrain” layering while the apple maps is using “discover” layering, therefor making the comparison misleading. Google maps shows a significantly more similar version as apple maps when using the satellite layer or 3d map details. https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3092439?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid
