Interracial marriages have been recognized by legal opinion under the 14th Amendment since the U. S. Supreme Court's 1967 decision in Loving v Virginia. https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/loving_v_virginia_(1967). A law provides recognition that can't be undone by a reinterpretation (e.g. as recently happened with Roe).
