In Plutarch’s account, Alexander, enraged by an offer to buy a boy for love, asked the proposer what made him think he would accept such a thing. He scolded him bitterly in a letter, cursed a merchant by wishing him downfall, and criticized another for a similar proposal. https://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/e/roman/texts/plutarch/lives/alexander*/3.html https://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A2008.01.0231%3Achapter%3D1#note-link73
