Original Note:

The Earth is an oblate spheroid, it’s roughly spherical but bulges at the equator and flattens at the poles. Gravity pulls everything towards the center, making the Earth as compact as possible. A sphere is the most compact shape. (1) Why the Earth Isn't Flat: https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/546834/science-behind-why-earth-not-flat.
