The UK has signed the 1951 Refugee Convention and 1967 Protocol. Countries that have ratified the Refugee Convention are obliged to protect refugees that are on their territory in accordance with its terms, which makes blocking asylum claims unlawful under these acts. https://www.unhcr.org/about-unhcr/who-we-are/1951-refugee-convention https://www.ohchr.org/en/instruments-mechanisms/instruments/convention-relating-status-refugees https://www.refugeecouncil.org.uk/information/refugee-asylum-facts/the-truth-about-asylum/#:~:text=There%20is%20no%20such%20thing,authorities%20have%20assessed%20their%20claim.
