It is false that "emulation is illegal". While companies like Sony make this claim, they always fail in court. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Computer_Entertainment,_Inc._v._Connectix_Corp. Most emulators are open-source and developed by communities in the open. What is illegal is distributing copyrighted games/ROM files.
